Texas Woman’s University wins team title at USA Gymnastics Women’s Collegiate Championships

![]() Texas Women's University SHREVEPORT, La., April 18, 2008 – Texas Woman’s University won the team title at the USA Gymnastics Women’s Collegiate Championships for the ninth time overall. Texas Woman’s University posted 194.700 points to best Cornell University, who was second at 193.675. Towson University was third at 193.100, with competition host Centenary College of Louisiana finishing fourth. Texas Woman’s University worked its way up to first place after three events and its score of 49.125 on floor clinched the title. After three events, Centenary, Cornell and Towson were battling for second. They were separated by eight-tenths of a point. Cornell responded with a 49.025 on vault to secure second. Towson was on bars and Centenary was on beam as both squads vied for third place. Centenary encountered some problems on the beam, and Towson emerged with the bronze. Individual event finals are Saturday at 1:30 p.m. Gymnastics fans can watch the team and individual event finals live on Centenary’s Web site by going to www.GoCentenary.com and clicking on “Live Events Schedule.” The cost is $6.95 per session. Based in Indianapolis, USA Gymnastics is the national governing body for gymnastics in the United States. Its mission is to encourage participation and the pursuit of excellence in the sport. Its disciplines include men's and women's artistic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, trampoline and tumbling, and acrobatic gymnastics.
